trial SharePoint site

June 18, 2019

Hi, this is Ben Eggleston. I’ve set up a “CLAS Chairs and Directors” SharePoint site to explore the pros and cons of using SharePoint rather than Blackboard to provide documents to chairs and directors. I’ve set up the site to be accessible to chairs and directors who have asked to participate in this project. If you would like to participate, just let me know, and I’ll be glad to add you.

To access the site, go to https://kansas.sharepoint.com/teams/CLAS-Chairs-and-Directors. When you do this, you may see the following:

Here you need to get to KU’s single sign-on page. So, you can just enter something like w@ku.edu, to tell Microsoft that you are with KU. What precedes the “@” character doesn’t matter (in my experience messing around with this). It seems that the characters “@ku.edu” tell Microsoft to take you to KU’s single sign-on page. Once you sign in there, you should be taken to the above URL. Alternatively if you’re already signed in to KU's single sign-on, the above URL should work directly.

You can also log in to SharePoint at KU by going to mycommunity.ku.edu. (I'm told that “myCommunity” is simply KU’s branding for its SharePoint service.) Once there, you may have to search for the CLAS Chairs and Directors site – in my experience, simply logging into myCommunity does not show you all the sites you have access to. Once you search for it and are looking at it, I recommend “following” it (by clicking the star), so that it will show up among your SharePoint sites if you log in at mycommunity.ku.edu in the future.

staff searches and staff direct hires

September 5, 2018

It has been the practice for some departments needing to hire staff (whether through a search or a direct hire) to contact the Shared Service Center directly. The staff-hiring process – including position descriptions and budget approvals – now flows through the Dean’s Office before being sent to the SSC. If you need to hire staff, please contact Amanda Burghart (amccoy@ku.edu); if the position needs to be filled quickly, please indicate that in your email to her.
